The Summit & This Year's Theme

Before I commit, can you just tell me plainly what this summit is?

The Boardroom Governance Summit is Africa’s pioneering boardroom-focused event, and the largest gathering of its kind in Ghana. Once a year, we bring together more than 1,000 board chairpersons, directors, chief executives, C-suite leaders, regulators, and policymakers at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, to confront the real issues shaping modern boardrooms. Not the polished, theoretical version you find in textbooks and training slides, but how governance actually plays out under pressure.

The theme is Committees of the Board, From Oversight to Impact. Most boards treat committees as a compliance formality, a box ticked between meetings. We are challenging that directly. Can your Audit Committee, your ESG Committee, your Finance Committee actually move the needle on organisational performance, or are they simply producing minutes nobody reads? If you carry board responsibility, or hope to one day, this is not optional listening.

We open with a keynote from a prominent national or industry leader. Past keynote speakers have included the current Chief of Staff at the Office of the President of Ghana, the previous Minister for Finance, and the Chief Executive Officer of the State Interests and Governance Authority. This year’s keynote speaker is even more distinguished, and will be officially unveiled soon. From there, we move into three major panel discussions, each designed to challenge conventional boardroom thinking rather than simply confirm it.

Who Will Be In the Room

I have heard this used to be a mostly Ghanaian crowd. Is that still the case?

It is, and we are not shying away from that. In previous editions our attendance ran close to a 90 to 10 ratio, roughly 90 percent Ghanaian participants to 10 percent international. This year, the room will still be majority Ghanaian executives, board chairpersons, directors, and C-suite leaders drawn from across our banks, state institutions, and major corporates, alongside a steadily growing contingent of delegates from elsewhere in Africa and beyond. It remains, at its core, a room built around Ghana’s boardroom leadership.

Because the theme, committees of the board, is a live, urgent conversation inside Ghanaian institutions right now, in our banks, our state-owned enterprises, and our regulatory bodies. Keeping the room majority Ghanaian means the conversation stays grounded in the realities you actually operate in, while the growing number of delegates joining from elsewhere in Africa and beyond adds fresh perspective without diluting that focus.

Fellow board chairpersons, directors, and C-suite leaders from Ghana’s banks, state institutions, and major corporates, together with ministers, policymakers, and regulators who shape the environment you operate in daily. Add to that a widening circle of guests from elsewhere in Africa and beyond, and you get a room where the people who understand your context sit shoulder to shoulder with the people who influence it.

C-suite leaders, CEOs, policymakers, and board chairpersons from some of the largest companies locally and across the continent. Guests have included senior leadership from organisations such as VRA, Fidelity Bank, Kasapreko, ECG, Sunda, Stanbic Bank, GRA, Access Bank, Total, and many more, alongside regulators, thought leaders and leading academics on governance, civil society organisations, church leaders, traditional leaders, and senior figures from institutions such as the Bank of Ghana, state-owned enterprises, and major private sector organisations. Expect that same calibre of guest list this year, anchored by Ghana’s boardroom leadership.

This is not a claim we make lightly. Past and present endorsements have come from the Ghana Bar Association, the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply, and the Institute of Directors, alongside the Presidency, the Council of State, the Judiciary, and Parliament, the Legislature. We have also had the backing of various government ministries, including Finance, Trade, Health, Works and Housing, Defence, Local Government, Agriculture, Education, Roads and Highways, Transport, Communications, Water and Sanitation, and the Public and Civil Service. That is the breadth of institutional confidence this summit has earned over its editions, and it is exactly why the room carries the weight it does.

Why Attend In Person

Honestly, why should I attend in person rather than just wait for a recording or a summary afterward?

Because the value of this summit does not travel well through a screen. In person, you are in the same room as board chairpersons, regulators, and chief executives who are otherwise nearly impossible to access on a normal working day. You shake hands, you exchange cards, you get invited to the follow-up conversation. Recordings give you information. Being here gives you access, relationships, and opportunities you simply cannot get any other way.

Is this summit only for very senior directors and chairpersons, or is there a place for someone earlier in their career?

There is absolutely a place for you. If you are an experienced director, this is where you benchmark your practice against the continent’s best and have the honest conversations your own boardroom may be avoiding. Who is actually organising and standing behind this event?

The summit is organised by PanAvest International & Partners. It was founded and is convened by Ing. Professor Douglas K. Boateng, an International Chartered Director UK, Professional Chairperson, and Chartered Engineer recognised by both the Engineering Council UK and the Engineering Council of Ghana. He is also the Scriber of NyansaKasa, Words of Wisdom, a daily thought-leadership platform with an annual global readership of over 1 million, and the writer of two widely followed weekly op-ed series, The Inconvenient Truth and What Is Wrong With Us. His governance work has shaped boardroom thinking well beyond Ghana’s borders.
